Like many creatives who work as art directors, designers and / or photographers, Minnesota-based Jim Henderson has embraced AI and begun a side business which is taking off better than he could have imagined. Combining two objects which have great appeal to many – dogs and retro-style travel posters – and infusing them with his style, digitally, he creates one-of-a-kind custom posters printed on high-quality archival paper.
Custom Retro Dog Posters
Using Artificial Intelligence software combined with his Photoshop skills and design aesthetic, Jim turns out custom retro dog posters of big dogs, little dogs, dog siblings and dog duos with simple or decorative backgrounds, attractive border colors and clean typography. Although all are rendered in a vintage travel poster style, some are more painterly while others are more graphic in their appearance. Henderson is capable of capturing not only the retro vibe but also the dog’s personality through the pose, expression and venue.
Just last Tuesday night, Jan 30th, in a broadcast segment by KARE 11, anchor and reporter Rena Sarigianopoulos interviewed Jim regarding Ai’s impact on photography and art and how he’s utilizing it in the creation of his dog poster designs. You can watch that interview here.
Regarding the use of AI in art, Jim tells reporter Rena Sarigianopoulos “We need to help each other use these systems ethically and how to still maintain the voice and the authorship that an artist and designer has to have – so that’s tricky but we’re not putting our heads in the sand.”
As an art and dog-lover I had a difficult time picking which of his images to share with you, so here’s an impressive range that includes both classic hunting dog poses and whimsical ones as well.
Printed on 13″ x 19″ high quality Hahnemuhle 308 GSM Archivable paper, the custom prints cost $250 each (not including tax or shipping). That’s quite a deal for such beautiful custom work!
