Sofitel Legend The Grand Amsterdam, a luxurious and iconic hotel nestled in the heart of Amsterdam, has been awarded with the prestigious Bernaches Award for their exceptional Corporate Social Responsibility efforts in 2022.
Accor, a global leader in the Hospitality Industry, annually recognizes and celebrates outstanding contributions from its properties and teams. The Bernaches Awards represent remarkable commitment and contributions by Accor properties. This year, The Grand joins the ranks of Accor’s Bernaches Award recipients for the team’s unwavering dedication to environmental and social responsibility.
Sebastien Bazin, the CEO of Accor, said his congratulations to all the award winners: “Audacity, creativity and discipline are essential at Accor. The Grand has consistently demonstrated an unwavering dedication to environmental and social responsibility, which has now earned them this prestigious recognition. The monumental building of The Grand has been part of Amsterdam’s cultural heritage since 1578. Therefore, one of the biggest challenges is preserving the monumental value of the property on a daily basis while optimising the hotel’s sustainability.
“We are dedicated to providing exceptional service while maintaining the highest standards of environmental sustainability and social responsibility”, stated by Emmy Stoel, General Manager of The Grand “From reducing our environmental footprint to actively supporting local communities, we aim to build an eco-friendly hotel within a monumental building, while staying committed to offering luxury guest experiences.”
This recognition showcases the hotel’s commitment to sustainable practices, as in addition to aligning with Accor’s environmental and ethical guidelines, the hotel strives to become a pioneer in luxurious sustainability. To illustrate, The Grand’s efforts include, but are not limited to, reducing waste, optimizing energy and water usage, sourcing sustainable products, promoting diversity and inclusion, and engaging in responsible community development.
The hotel has banned single-use plastic and introduced compostable amenities, while also focusing on renewable energy, energy efficiency, and waste management. Additionally, the hotel serves its guests filtered Amsterdam tap water, offers sustainable products from Diptyque, and includes honey and herbs from its own rooftop garden in restaurant dishes.
Earlier this year, The Grand already received the EarthCheck certificate as the first hotel in Amsterdam. “We feel more motivated than ever to making the hotel as sustainable as it can be,” said by Dragos Avram, Sustainability Coordinator of The Grand.
